Schoolsrugbyscores will be 10 years old next year.

If anybody told me 10 years ago that I will be updating schools rugby results and fixtures on a weekly basis as my hobby, I would have laughed and walked away. Next year it will be my tenth consecutive year of supplying schools rugby results to SA first XV to U/14.

Schoolsrugbyscores started as a discussion at work during a lunch break and only focusing on the Lions small schools at the time. Today we cover the whole of SA, and it’s done with a cell phone, old lab top and just pure passion for schools rugby.

This website is not my day job.  I am a full time pastor at the Assemblies of Christ church in Randfontein, and my calling and passion will always be the work of the Lord. I must admit for some reason the website has always been a “hobby” that just keeps going on like the energizer bunny. Every year at the end of the schools rugby season I tell my wife it is my last year, but when I receive the first e-mail regarding fixtures or news, something just clicks in place and we go for a next year.

Allot of Saturday’s I update the website in between weddings, teaching classes at the bible school; church, my 2 sons rugby practice or games and family functions.  Why do I keep doing it? It is part of who I am.

I have learnt a few things in my 9 nearly 10 years

  • In everything you do you must honor God
  • Never get into a heated discussion with anybody next to a rugby field, or on social media
  • Keep your head down and do the results because the websites name is Schools Rugby Scores and people are looking for scores.
  • Never negatively discuses a player or coach from any school, or at least try not to.

How may years will I still be doing this? well that is in God hands.

Just between you and me I can’t wait for the 2019 season, there is no rugby like schools rugby. Don’t tell my wife……. but I think she knows.
